Yesterday, I realised that it was the last time I would order from Hawker Food as a UWA student. To commemorate this moment, I’ve added the business’s details to Urbanspoon and this blog review will discuss my favourite uni lunch!

Favourite spot for UWA students and local business people
Hawker Food is situated at Broadway Shopping Center and offers a range of authentic Penang and Indian food. The owners are from Malaysia and they do very brisk business with many regular customers. Drop in for a cheap lunch or afternoon meal during the week - they are open Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm.

Larger serving of rice and extra chilli when you “dine-in”
I love Hainanese chicken rice and Hawker Food offers the best in the area. This meal is only available on Tuesdays and Thursday, which means it often sells out by early afternoon! Get in quick to avoid disappointment. It’s also worth squeezing onto tables with randoms so you “dine-in” because you get a larger serving of rice and you can ask for extra chilli.

Hainanese Chicken Rice ($8)
The chicken is tender and not too fatty, the chilli is tangy and quite spicy, and the rice and brown sauce are flavoursome. I’m getting hungry just staring at the photo…
Another of my favourites from Hawker Food is the super-cheap nasi lemak ($4.50), which has ikan belis (fried anchovies), sambal chilli, coconuty rice, half an egg, and fishcake. Add on more ikan belis and sambal for an extra 50c!
Grab an ice lemon tea from the asian grocery store that sits opposite Hawker Food and enjoy a cheap, filling, and authentic lunch!
