A group of hungry students headed to Shafto Lane for lunch, already bored of the usual spots after just two weeks of vacation work. We were in a rush and I completely forgot to take photos of the restaurant, but I grabbed one from the Generous Squire’s website instead if you want to recognise it next time you’re in the area! Head inside the restaurant, past the outdoor seating and bar area, to the comfortable indoor dining with lovely airconditioning.

Smoked Salmon Bruschetta ($18)

One of my work friends ordered the salmon bruschetta. It came with two large slices of toasted bread drizzled with balsamic vinegar and generously topped with smoked salmon, rocket, and a mix of tomato, red onion, and green capsicum bits. She has a small appetite so I thoughtfully agreed to help her finish the second half of her meal, as pictured above. Yummy, but too pricey for an everyday work lunch.

Beer Battered Fish ($22)

My brother and I shared the fish and chips. I was defeated the last time I visited the Generous Squire and tried to solo this dish for dinner. It was a good portion to share and made our lunch only $11 each! The fish is freshly fried (try saying that three times), the chips are decent, and they give a generous serving of aioli. Yay! They also include a salad of mixed greens and bean sprouts in a light French dressing, so I could delude myself into believing this was a balanced meal.

Service was friendly, attentive, and they got our meals out within 15 minutes so that we could return to the office within the hour. If you have a friend who is willing to share a solid pub meal, it’s worth trying the Generous Squire when you’re craving something other than food-court sushi.

Summary 
Likes: large servings, prompt service

Dislikes: couple of pesky flies buzzing around inside

Value for money: reasonable, if you share a large meal between two people

Overall: good place to catch up with friends for a work lunch
