Bar One sits at the bottom of the QV1 building in the city and is frequented mostly by business people in expensive clothes. A small group of lawyers took us for a celebratory lunch on our last day of vacation clerkships - yay for corporate credit cards!

Bread with Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar (free)
My measure of a fancy upmarket restaurant is complimentary bread - check! Thick slices of warm fluffy bread soaked up the olive oil and kept us happy while we waited around 15 minutes for our mains.

Pappardelle ($35.50)
After much deliberation, I selected one of the most expensive pastas with duck, porcini, and mixed mushrooms. It was so filling! By the end, the dish was too salty for my taste (and I’m usually the kind of person to add extra salt to everything). The pasta was well cooked, and there was a generous serving of mushrooms and shredded chunks of duck. Next time, I want to try the gnocchi that everyone talks about.

Fries with Aioli and Ketchup ($7.50)
Carb-overload with a side of chips! They were like McDonalds chips but crunchier and served with aioli :)

Magners Pear ($9.50)
Bar One offers a selection of wines that changes over the months. For the less refined palate, there’s two brands of bottled pear cider! I would love to try the cocktails, but they were about $20 each which is difficult to justify for a work lunch.

Chocolate Pannacotta, Cherry Sorbet and Honeycomb ($10)
The highlight of my meal (and the best decision I made all day) was the chocolate pannacotta! This was the first taste of pannacotta - it reminds me of melted ice cream. Each mouthful was a crazy mix of smooth chocolate, tooth-achingly sweet honeycomb, cold cherry sorbet, and tangy raspberry pieces. The beetroot chips add more vibrant purple and extra crunchy bits. Oh my god, wow. The toppings take this pannacotta to a whole new level! I would definitely order this again.
I know that one of my colleagues had major food envy when he compared his dessert to mine. He unexpectedly received a ‘deconstructed’ meringue - which, in this case, is a pretentious way to describe broken bits of meringe sprinkled over fruit :P

Bar One is a popular spot for coffee catch-ups during the day and after-work drinks on Friday evenings. Service is prompt, friendly, and helpful. Keep in mind that they also offer a refreshing and overpriced fresh orange juice for noobs (like me) who don’t enjoy the taste of coffee.
Aaah, I know that I’ll be back with a friend sometime to share an amazing pannacotta dessert!
Summary
Likes: chocolate pannacotta dessert
Dislikes: feeling bloated from too much salty pasta
Value for money: *relief* due to the corporate credit card!
Overall: good coffee and lunch spot for business people
