I love spontaneous catch-ups with girlfriends, so I headed to the Crown Metropol for a lunch date! My dining companion used to work at the Lobby Lounge and suggested we try out the high tea. Yes, please!

High Tea ($30)

Our two-tiered high tea platter looked beautiful. The crumbly scones with jam and cream were fantastic, some of the best that I’ve tried. We munched happily on the smoked salmon sandwiches (but the ham and cheese sandwiches seemed a little boring). On the sweet tier, we loved the lemon meringue and mango mousse cake. The light sponge with cream layers was also pretty tasty, but the fruit-based petits fours were too sweet to stomach at the end of the meal.

Lemon Lime Bitters

The high tea includes a glass of bubbles or a coffee / tea for two people, but we asked for lemon lime bitters because of the summer heat. I enjoy freshly mixed lemon lime bitters, especially with real pieces of lemon and lime squeezed in! So refreshing.

Seafood Tapas ($29)

We also ordered a seafood tapas plate to share, which was great value for money. The platter featured six fresh plump oysters, smoked ocean trout, four prawns in cocktail sauce, proscuitto, salami, herb breadsticks, and olives with marinated vegetables. It was a fantastic salty mix of delicious finger food that complemented our sweet treats from the high tea.

This is my first visit to Crown since it changed from the Burswood branding and underwent serious renovations. The Lobby Lounge looks great and there is a seriously classy vibe. Somewhat surprisingly, the food was reasonably priced and we couldn’t finish everything on our platters!

Remember that there is no table service, so head to the bar to place food and drink orders. All the staff are friendly and helpful, which makes for an enjoyable and relaxing afternoon.

Summary 
Likes: tasty high tea and seafood tapas

Dislikes: sticking to the lounge chair due to hot weather

Value for money: decent prices for high-quality food

Overall: we’ll be back for another lunch date!
