We secured three large tables for our group of 28 people to celebrate a mate’s birthday at Tony Roma’s. Ribs, ribs, ribs!!
While the slogan on the wall says “more than just great ribs”, most of us had our priorities in order. I wore a loose top to mask my inevitable food-baby. Skipping straight to the ribs page, I carefully pondered the menu even though I knew I’d order the same thing I always do.
Fresh bread and herb butter
It was impressive how fast we were served our meals, considering the size of our group! We snacked on a few bits of complimentary bread in the meantime. I was displeased that extra bread would be charged at $3 because that is an exorbitant price and we had a huge group of people. Maybe next time I’ll dine alone so I can eat more herb butter…
St Louis Ribs - Tony Roma’s Red Hots (regular for $35.50)
My favourite choice is pork ribs with the spicy sauce, which gets all over my face and hands and makes my nose run a little. Beautifully sticky tender meat, generous slathering of sauce, and lovely charred bits on the outside. Yay!!
You get to pick two sides with any ribs combo. The obvious choice is the baked potato which you can request “loaded” with cheese, bacon bits, sour cream, and spring onions. Also buttery corn cobs are the bomb! Just don’t be the noob who opts for broccoli - we can’t be friends.
St Louis Ribs - Blue Ridge Smokies (regular for $35.50)
The Original Baby-back Ribs are recommended on the menu and are seriously yum. However, the St Louis ribs allow for greater choice of sauces. A couple of friends ordered the Blue Ridge Smokies which have a strong firewood taste under the sweet barbeque sauce.
Service was attentive and friendly, which I was particularly happy with due to our large numbers. Plenty of paper and cloth napkins, plus wet wipes, and basins to wash your hands. Be prepared to make a delicious mess!
The only caveat to my love of Tony Roma’s is that I swear the serving sizes used to be larger because I never could finish my meal when I ordered the “regular” slab of ribs. During this visit, I had to finish my loaded baked potato for carbs to completely fill my stomach.
Likes: best American-style ribs in Perth
Dislikes: stingy with free bread, serving size of ribs shrunk a little
Value for money: reasonable
Overall: always return for the ribs <3
