Wandering around Freo on a rainy Friday afternoon, we searched for a spot to rest our feet and grab a drink. My friend lives in whoop-whoop so she rarely gets the chance to eat out at different restaurants and cafés. I enthusiastically powered towards San Churro so she could enjoy a coffee while I indulged my sweet tooth.
We ordered at the counter and then shotgunned an outdoor seat so we could people-watch. My snack arrived just a few minutes later and her drink was ready a couple minutes after that. *Excited*
Kids churros ($4.95)
The kids churros are technically only for children under 12 years old, but they never seem to enforce that rule. It’s the cheapest churros item on the menu and the only one that comes with sprinkles! I chose the dark chocolate dip to balance out the sweetness from the hundreds ‘n’ thousands. Cinnamon sugar is my favourite but you can choose icing sugar if you prefer. We enjoyed this little snack but I would have liked my churros cooked to a darker golden brown, like the ones I had at San Churro in Subiaco.
Madrid mocha ($5.95)
My friend’s drink was a viscous coffee and chocolate combo. She loved the rich taste but it was too heavy for her to drink the whole mug. Unfortunately, I couldn’t help her because I don’t really enjoy coffee, so this was left on the table with the mug half-full.
Service was friendly and prompt. My friends and I often find ourselves in a food-coma after we grab dessert (eg. after our visit to Koko Black). We worked off the chocolate overload as we drifted around Freo and played games at TimeZone. Reminder to self: stop ordering rich chocolate snacks with rich chocolate drinks.
Likes: kids-size churro snack
Dislikes: huge drinks (how about half the size for half the price?)
Value for money: reasonable, especially if you share with a friend
Overall: would happily return to any San Churro café
