Thursday was hectic and I was quite exhausted by the time I arrived at the Rosemount Hotel for dinner with a large group of friends. A couple of mates had a gig there while the rest of us ordered a chicken parma. Each weekday at the Rosemount there’s a different $12 meal deal and Thursdays are parma nights.
The indoor seating was closed for the gig so we grabbed a large outdoor table. Wind blew through the outdoor area so I asked the bartenders to turn on the heaters, which they were happy to do for us, but it meant they had to stand up on the tables. Our meals started to arrive 2 or 3 plates at a time which meant that everyone was eating at different times.
Chicken parma ($12)
On other nights, the parma will set you back $17 but on Thursdays it’s discounted. The chicken itself was quite small and heavily crumbed compared to my recent pub grub at the Langford Ale House. I enjoyed the cherry tomato napolitana sauce, but there wasn’t enough cheese.
Side salad was boring green leaves with some shaved parmesan and light dressing. The lightly salted chips had skins on, but they were a little soggy. However, the biggest disappointment of the night was discovering there was NO HAM on any of the parmas. The bartender told me there’s a new manager who made this ridiculous policy. In my opinion, no ham = no customers.
You order food and drinks at the bar, find yourself a table, and wait patiently for your food to arrive. While the price is reasonable, the Rosemount does not offer anything special in the way of pub grub. I’m not pleased with my experience last night, except for the friendly bartenders.
Likes: friendly service, plenty of seating
Dislikes: parma without ham?!
Value for money: not great
Overall: wouldn’t return for a meal, but might visit for drinks with mates
